MP’s pledge to bring investment into the borough

-

THE member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton has pledged to work with Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham to bring investment to the Rochdale borough.

MP Liz McInnes is on a mission to eradicate homelessness, fight unjust leasehold properties and support women fighting for justice over the age they can withdraw their pensions. She has also pledged to ensure transport links to the borough are improved and to put pressure on the government to introduce tougher sentences for people who cause death or serious injury by dangerous driving.

She applauded volunteers working in food banks, but said that ‘we need to address the underlying issues that are driving the need for this service.’

Ms McInnes, whose constituency also covers Castleton, Norden and Bamford, said: “We also need to carry on working to bring high quality jobs to our area and to make the Northern Powerhouse a reality and not just a slogan.

“I will continue to work with mayor Andy Burnham to bring investment to the borough and to ensure that our transport links are improved.

“I am pleased the government have said that they will now stop new homes being sold as leasehold properties, but there is much more to do to help to finally introduce tougher sentences for those causing death or serious injury by dangerous driving.

“Although the government has consulted on this and produced a response which was welcomed by the families affected, they have still to bring this much needed reform into law.

“If 2018 is anything like 2017 then it will be a year full of surprises, but whatever this year throws at us I will continue to work hard to ensure that your voices are heard.”
