Trippier praises Rochdale repeat

-

TOTTENHAM star Kieran Trippier praised Rochdale for repeating the level of performance they produced when the teams met at the Crown Oil Arena two weeks ago.

While Spurs ran away with the game in the second half, Trippier was quick to hal Dale’s contribution to a game which, at the half way stage, was very much in the balance.

“We created a lot of chances in the first half. We have to give credit to Rochdale, they made it difficult again - as they did in the first game,” he said. “They had one chance and they took it but every chance we had we took.”

Trippier, as with others from the Spurs contingent, was less impressed with the use of VAR.

“It was crazy. Obviously the decisions took some momentum out of the game but the referee has to make the decision so we have to wait.”

Spurs full-back Danny Rose said it was “shambolic” and an “absolute disgrace” after fans and pundits were left bemused.

“We got the job done under shambolic circumstances through the game,” he told talkSPORT. “An absolute disgrace, waiting around for I don’t know how many minutes to get a decision. It’s just laughable. It just ruined it a little bit.”

And Premier League referee Mark Halsey believes mistakes were made when Tottenham’s “perfectly good goal” against Rochdale was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee during the FA Cup replay with Rochdale.

When asked about Erik Lamela’s goal, Halsey told BBC Five Live: “For me it wasn’t a clear and obvious error. I thought it was a perfectly good goal. I don’t know why it was referred (to the VAR) in the first place.”
