Wynn says sorry for poor results

-

ROCHDALE Hornets chairman Mark Wynn has apologised to supporters for the team’s recent run of poor results.

Hornets have struggled in the Championship so far this season, and then suffered a heavy 38-0 defeat to League One side Whitehaven in the Challenge Cup last weekend.

While Wynn admits it has not been good enough, he still has faith in the staff and players and is calling on all factions of the Hornets contingent to stick together through this tough spell.

In a statement on the club’s website, he said: “Being the Chairman of Rochdale Hornets is an honour and a privilege. It comes though, with a high level of responsibility.

“Sunday’s performance simply wasn’t acceptable. If I am prepared accept any responsibility for our successes, then by the same token I have to accept responsibilities for our failures as well.

“As Chairman the buck has to stop with me. Sunday brought into sharp focus how the game of Rugby League can expose your shortfalls and failings very quickly.

“As a club we haven’t performed on and off the pitch for a while now, apart from the odd highlight such as the victory over Barrow and the Toronto game. This has to stop.

“This is my tenth season as Chairman, for the first nine years we have had incremental improvements. We have though gone backwards, we have to get back the energy and drive that saw us grow as a club and once again start to challenge teams, so we become a side to fear.

“The answer is simple and that is hard work, and that hard work starts today as we prepare for our next challenge which is Sheffield Eagles on Sunday.

“Regaining the faith of our loyal supporters, especially those who made the long hard trip up to Whitehaven on Sunday, is the first task we have to achieve.

“I know the pain I felt after Sunday hasn’t gone away and the only thing that will cure this is a performance from the team. I have faith in our office staff to do their job and deliver on the business side of our club.

“I have faith in our coaching staff to prepare the team to the highest level and make them ready to face any challenge that the division can throw at us.

“I have faith in the players to be able to perform above and beyond the level required. I have faith in myself and the board to deliver the direction and leadership this club requires to face the challenges ahead.

“It is in adversity you see the best and the worst in people. It shows the true champion and exposes the weak.

“Sunday’s game will show who really does have what is required when the going gets tough, it will show us true champions but will also painfully expose the weak.

“Sunday isn’t about winning or losing, it is about healing the wounds we collectively suffered. It is about us all not looking to someone else to fix our problems but to stand shoulder to shoulder with our club-mates and work together for the common good.

“If there are those who don’t want to stand with us for that fight, that is their choice but if we strive together we can achieve again.

“Sunday we either slowly heal or we slowly crumble, our collective ambition rests with the 17 players who are privileged to pull on the red, white and blue.

“The road to redemption starts again Sheffield Eagles. I urge supporters to stand with us, now is the time we need us all be resolute.”
