School flies the flag for acceptance

PUPILS and staff at a Littleboro­ugh primary school showed their support for the fight against homophobia by creating a giant ‘human rainbow flag’ in the playground.

Stansfield Hall celebrated Internatio­nal Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobi­a by sharing a rainbow cake, decorating t-shirts with the phrase ‘It’s Great To Be Me’ and forming a large human Pride Flag.

A school spokespers­on said: “Our school feels it is vital to children’s emotional wellbeing to celebrate the individual child and embrace the difference­s and similariti­es, accepting people for who they are without exception.

“Every member of our school community took part with each class wearing a different colour ●●Pupils and staff at Stansfield Hall Primary School showed their support for Internatio­nal Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobi­a by forming a large human Pride Flag. of the Pride Flag with the teachers, teaching assistants, facilities management staff and office staff making up the sixth colour.

“The children enjoyed the opportunit­y to express themselves as individual­s and took great pride wearing their t-shirts home, especially the Year 6 children who had only completed their final SATs test moments earlier.

“The school council stayed behind after school to join the staff and governing board in a celebrator­y tea, with another rainbow cake, to share their IDAHOBiT work and It’s Great to Be Me t-shirts.”
