MP gets close-up of Dippy ahead of visit
MP Liz McInnes came face-to-face with one of the world’s most famous dinosaurs ahead of its visit to Rochdale.
The Heywood and Middleton MP, whose constituency includes Norden, Bamford and Castleton, met a 3D-printed life-size copy of the skull of Dippy the Diplodocus, which has begun its nationwide tour ahead of visiting Rochdale in 2020.
Dippy has been one of the Natural History Museum’s most-loved artefacts since 1905 and until now had never been on public display outside of the capital.
Currently in Dorset at the County Museum, Dippy visits Birmingham, Ulster, Glasgow, Cardiff and Newcastle before heading to Rochdale, where it will be on display at Number One Riverside from February 10 to June 28, 2020.
Ms McInnes said: “I was delighted to attend the ‘Museums in Westminster’ event held in Parliament this week and to learn more about the collections and the work of several different museums, including the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Royal Museums Greenwich. The event was organised by the Museums Association and was the first of its kind in Westminster.
“Of course, I was particularly taken by the 3D model of Dippy’s skull and it really increased my excitement about Dippy’s visit to our borough in 2020! Dippy coming here will be great for the entire borough and I hope that all the schools in my constituency will take the opportunity to visit One Riverside during Dippy’s stay.”
Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd added: “I am absolutely thrilled that Dippy the Diplodocus will be coming to Rochdale in 2020. It is something that can be enjoyed by everybody young and old and give people another excellent reason to visit Rochdale.” t %*4"#-&% '3*&/%-: '"$*-*5*&4 t 5"%%: 4 #"3 "-- 0' :063
