Dream trip on horizon as gift shop owner bags £30k

AGIFT shop owner is planning the ‘trip of a lifetime’ after winning £30,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Carolyn Greenwood, who runs Pookys in Norden, bagged the cash when OL11 5TA was drawn as the winner of on May 27.

But until she opened the envelope Carolyn, 52, didn’t know exactly how much she’d won.

And after discoverin­g she’d landed a whopping 30 grand Carolyn was quick to start planning a holiday to the Maldives with her partner Tony.

It’s not all going to be spent on fun and frolics though as the businesswo­man is also planning to invest some of the cash in launching a new website for the Edenfield Road shop.

Carolyn said: “This is absolutely amazing and very surreal. I feel like I’m just floating on air at the moment.

“I’m definitely going to book a holiday to the Maldives as it’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go it’s going to be amazing to treat myself and my partner Tony to the trip of a lifetime.

“My son is also graduating from university in Edinburgh in a few weeks’ time, so now we’ll be having a double celebratio­n.

“I opened up a shop in Rochdale called Pookys a few months ago so this win means I’ll be able to launch a website now and has come at a really good time.”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt presented Carolyn with her cheque and offered her congratula­tions.

She said: “I’ve had an absolute blast in Rochdale and I’m totally thrilled for Carolyn. For just £10 a month you too could also be getting a big cheque in a golden envelope from me, so make sure you’re playing!”

With a minimum of 32 per cent from every ticket going to charity, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have now raised £301 million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internatio­nally.

Link4Life is just one good cause close-by to the winner that has received funding from players.

The organisati­on, which runs leisure and arts services in Rochdale, was awarded £16,500 last year to provide 50 local young people with the opportunit­y to gain an accredited community sports leader award and run sports coaching sessions.
