Hornets’ rise up richly deserved
ROCHDALE Hornets head coach Alan Kilshaw felt his team got their just rewards after they lifted themselves off the foot of the table by returning to winning ways with a 25-18 victory over Swinton Lions.
Hornets were victorious at Heywood Road, meaning they have now leapfrogged Swinton in the Betfred Championship table and are once again in 11th place. Kilshaw was delighted to pick up the result, and believed it was well deserved.
“I’m pleased with the win. Both teams scored four tries each but a few of their tries came at the end. Generally we defended quite well,” he said. “It was a bit ugly in the second half as it was a bit foreign to us having such a big lead, and you could tell that. We looked anxious, and we’ve got to learn to manage games better.
“If we knocked out a few match going into next week as we’ve got a tough trip to Barrow.”
Kilshaw was also glad to have some of his regular players back in the team against Swinton, and felt that they made a difference in the game.
“Gaz Middlehurst was back and scored a try, and Ben Moores was outstanding like I knew he would be,” he said.
“I thought both Toby and Luke Adamson were outstanding as well. We were a bit busted up towards the end but that’s the nature of the beast. Our discipline was very good and having those players makes a difference.”
The victory ended a run of three straight defeats more sets then the last 10 for Hornets, with their last minutes wouldn’t have win coming at the start of been as anxious.
