Golden time for carnival’s 50th year
MILNROW Carnival marks its 50th anniversary this year - and organisers are planning to celebrate in the style.
With a Golden Jubilee and Swinging Sixties theme, the carnival parade on Saturday, June 23, is already looking at a record number of entries.
Milnrow Brass Band will lead the parade, with the Deputy Mayor of Rochdale.
Moorhouse Primary, Crossgates Primary, Newhey Community Primary and St Thomas Primary schools are also taking part along with Abracadabra, Milnrow Pre-School and Channings Childcare.
Others entries include Mini Mee’s Childcare, Milnrow and District WI, Loud Studios, Slimming World, Oldham and District Mini Club, Milnrow Morris Troupe, St Ann’s Morris Troupe, K Stars Morris Troupe, Littleborough Rugby Union Football Club and Milnrow Beavers.
And to mark the 50th anniversary previous carnival queens will be parading alongside the current queen.
The parade ends at Milnrow Memorial Park where the summer fete will take place, including live music from Celtic rockers The Scattering and covers band New Identity.
There will also be paintball, crazy golf, lots of stalls, a funfair and karate and birds of prey displays.
All proceeds from the carnival will go to Springhill Hospice.
A carnival committee spokeswoman said: “We are proud to raise valuable funds for such a fantastic charity which touches the lives of so many people.
“Last year nearly £1,000 was raised for Springhill Hospice in the street collection and Springhill Hospice and ourselves wish to thank the local community for their outstanding generosity.”
Anyone wishing to enter the parade, have a stall at the park or for more information contact the carnival secretary on 077868 50266 or milnrowcarnival@yahoo.com.
