Blue Planet the focus of dance show

- Steve@aata.me

OUR Blue Planet is the theme of this year’s annual Community Dance Showcase curated and produced by Can’t Dance Can in partnership with Oulder Hill Community School.

Now in its 12th year, this annual showcase has become established as one of the highlights of the borough’s arts calendar, providing hundreds of Rochdale residents an opportunity to perform, take part in and watch a celebration of local dance talent.

Our Blue Planet ‘explores the idea of the natural word, using dance to create a series of performances exploring and celebrating the beautiful natural world we live in’.

Performances range from ‘a group of underfives tap dancing penguins to an over-60s ensemble dancing to a classic En Vogue track’, with more than 200 performers from 16 groups.

Artistic director, Romina Thornton said: “I’m very much looking forward to this year’s showcase.

“We have a diverse range of groups taking part and even have a solo entry from a young local lad - people of all ages and abilities coming together to share the stage and their love of dance.

“Each year the showcase gets bigger and better. Having a theme allows the groups to interpret it in their own way.

“Yet through the show you’ll see magical moments that glimmer and ripple through, a little nod to the theme, each echoing the next.

“This year expect to see a large group of small penguins tapping their dancing feet. It’s going to be great.”
