Pink Warriors top at festival

-

LITTLEBOROUGH Under 18s saved the best until last with silverware in the final year for many of the current squad.

Having experienced several early season absentees, the girls got better and better as the year went on, making it into the semi-final of their own festival and having four of the squad make their county appearances for Lancashire.

Those included debuts for Summer Harris and Chloe Boardman. The team spirit in the group is astounding and greatly behind their trophy winning season.

The particular highlight of the season was the rugby festival which they would go on to win.

Making the trip to the Woodys 7s Festival in Derbyshire, the girls represented the club impeccably and were the life and soul of the camp making friends from Wales, Birmingham and the South of England.

On day one in their pool matches the girls won all three games convincingly and achieved a remarkable record of only conceding two tries, both of those came from a Pink Warrior the young side had loaned to the opposition.

After a fun night of live music and daft games on camp finals day arrived with the Pink Warriors going in as heavy favourites.

However, as much pressure that had put on the girls they rose to the challenge magnifcently and carried with them a sense of swagger and invincibility.

Given that this would be the last game all these girls would play together after three years, with some of the elder stateswomen making the step up in to the senior game.

The team decided to let two of the orginal cast in Megan Dickinson and Olivia Turner coach them as they were ruled out of playing, having both recent undergone surgery.

The two ladies led a great squad with intelligent squad utlisation that would have impressed the likes of Sir Clive Woodward and positional play to yet again taken a convincing win of both their semi-final opponents Kettering.

As well in the final against a combined team of locals Diamonds and Welsh girls from Twfyd meaning the ladies finished their season as festival champions.

Outstanding performances not just over that weekend but across the season from powerhouse forwards Emily Wilson, Lily Young and Georgia Turner. While the backline speed and finesse was supplied from the likes of Chloe Boardman, Alex Baker, Summer Harris, Hannah Mills and Jess Chadwick.

The girls had an awesome weekend, came out convincing winners and made some amazing memories.

While the rest will continue in a brand new 18s team with a brand new coach after faithful servant Sam Dickinson stepped down from the post. Teaching, coaching and a father figure, he will be sorely missed.
