Jail for burglar who smashed his way in with axe
ABURGLAR who smashed his way into a home using an axe has been jailed for three years.
Sam Taylor, 18, smashed his way into a property on Greenview Drive in Rochdale stole a set of keys and a television worth £1,900, as well as a wallet and a bank card.
Later the same day, he snuck in through an unlocked patio door at a home on St George’s Road and stole a set of keys.
Following the burglaries, which took place in May, police discovered stolen items in a bag in the footwell of his car, and he was arrested.
Taylor, of Coverdale Close, Heywood, has now been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary at Minshull Street Crown Court on Thursday, June 21.
Police in Heywood say Taylor’s sentence should serve as a warning to other criminals that they will be jailed.
Heywood Inspector Paul Wood says the arrest came about thanks to the determination of his officers.
He said: “Sam Taylor for a period of time has been the cause of significant crime and disorder not only in Heywood but across Rochdale.
“This has meant significant distress has been caused to innocent hard working members of the community.
“The threat he posed to the community was identified and a coordinated approach to apprehending him was conducted, involving a number of resources.
“Due to the hard work and the overwhelming evidence that was presented Sam pleaded guilty and received a significant custodial sentence.
“I hope this sends the message to criminals that if you target the community of Heywood this is what will happen.”
