Man ar­rested af­ter sex at­tack on boy fish­ing

AMAN has been ar­rested af­ter a teenage boy was sex­u­ally as­saulted while he was fish­ing.

The 60-year-old is be­ing held on sus­pi­cion of sex­ual as­sault and was ar­rested on Thurs­day

He re­mains in cus­tody for ques­tion­ing.

The sex­ual as­sault took place near to a body of water close to the Rochdale Canal, near to Holling­worth Road, Lit­tle­bor­ough, at around 5.20pm on Tues­day af­ter­noon.

The 14-year-old boy was mag­net fish­ing when he was ap­proached by a man who told him to head to an­other area a short dis­tance away as he would have a bet­ter chance of find­ing some­thing.

He moved over to that lo­ca­tion and a short time later the man fol­lowed him, where he sex­u­ally as­saulted him.

The boy man­aged to run away to safety.

Det Sgt Paul Davies, of GMP’s Rochdale Bor­ough, said: “This has been a fast mov­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion and we have ar­rested a man in the Rochdale area on sus­pi­cion of sex­ual as­sault.

“He re­mains in cus­tody for ques­tion­ing, how­ever, our in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­tin­ues.”
