Classic car fan ready for epic charity trip
A CLASSIC car enthusiast is gearing up for an epic journey to raise money for Springhill Hospice next week.
As the Observer reported Martyn Butterworth and his pal Bob Daniels are to drive his 1963 Olympic - one of just 55 still registered from Rochdale to Mallorca, in memory of his late wife Dot, who died at the hospice 10 years ago.
the friends are setting off start at The Elephant and Castle, Bury Road, 10.30am on Monday.
The week long trip will be in the ‘comfort’ of Martyn’s renovated sporty, two door, coupe which was manufactured by Rochdale Motor Panels, founded by Frank Butterworth and Harry Smith in a mill on Hudson Street, between 1948 and 1973. Barring breakdowns, the pair, who are ready and able to carry out any running repairs, will arrive in Mallorca just in time to show off the Olympic at the Club De Cotxes, Mallorca Classic Car Club’s annual show at Port Adriano.
