Clas­sic car fan ready for epic char­ity trip

A CLAS­SIC car en­thu­si­ast is gear­ing up for an epic jour­ney to raise money for Springhill Hospice next week.

As the Ob­server re­ported Mar­tyn Butterworth and his pal Bob Daniels are to drive his 1963 Olympic - one of just 55 still reg­is­tered from Rochdale to Mal­lorca, in mem­ory of his late wife Dot, who died at the hospice 10 years ago.

the friends are set­ting off start at The Ele­phant and Cas­tle, Bury Road, 10.30am on Mon­day.

The week long trip will be in the ‘com­fort’ of Mar­tyn’s ren­o­vated sporty, two door, coupe which was man­u­fac­tured by Rochdale Mo­tor Pan­els, founded by Frank Butterworth and Harry Smith in a mill on Hud­son Street, be­tween 1948 and 1973. Bar­ring breakdowns, the pair, who are ready and able to carry out any run­ning re­pairs, will ar­rive in Mal­lorca just in time to show off the Olympic at the Club De Cotxes, Mal­lorca Clas­sic Car Club’s an­nual show at Port Adri­ano.
