Baggage handler sends cases flying through air

- Rebecca.day@men-news.co.uk @RebeccaDayMEN

ASHOCKING video shows a baggage handler at Manchester Airport launching suitcases onto a trailer without a care in the world.

Some of the bags are tossed onto the cart with such force that they fly straight through the trailer and onto the ground below.

The handler continues to throw the bags on the trailer without a backwards glance, while his colleague looks on.

It is only when five bags have toppled clean over the side like skittles that the baggage handler goes to pick them up.

A spokesman for Swissport – which handles the baggage operation for the airport – said they are ‘disappointed’ by the footage and are investigating what happened.

The footage was taken by passenger, Elizabeth Evans, who was on the Ryanair flight from Malaga, which arrived at Manchester Airport at 9.30am on Thursday.

Her suitcase is pink with butterflies on it and is the second bag which lands on the ground in the footage.

Baffled Elizabeth is heard saying: “That’s mine, yeah.”

The 28-year-old, from Bury, said: “I’m very angry and shocked.

“It was a new case. The case is dinted and the protective layer has been torn off it.”

The video was shared on Twitter and Facebook and many people replied expressing their concern about the way the baggage was thrown by the handler.

One Twitter user said: “This is atrocious, he’s got no excuse for this, it’s not like the bags are coming down at full speed.”

Another said: “Wow, no respect for people’s belongings at all this is terrible.

“Could be people’s laptops or anything in there worth a lot of money.”

A spokesman for Swissport said: “We are disappointed by the footage circulating on social media, and we apologise for the behaviour of this individual.

“We can confirm we are investigating and will take all steps necessary to ensure this does not happen again.”

A Manchester Airport spokeswoman said: “We are disappointed to see this unacceptable handling of bags by a Swissport employee and have raised this with them directly.”

Ryanair have also been contacted for comment. ●●A baggage handlers at Manchester Airport is recorded throwing suitcases onto a trolley with such force that some of them fly out of the other side onto the ground
