Watch­dog to probe ar­rest in store

THE po­lice watch­dog has launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion af­ter two peo­ple were ar­rested at a su­per­mar­ket.

Footage of the in­ci­dent on so­cial me­dia shows GMP of­fi­cers ar­rest­ing two peo­ple at a Tesco su­per­mar­ket on Silk Street, Rochdale, last Tues­day night.

Nasir Hus­sain, 28, and Mahira Hus­sain, 28, both of Land­seet Street, Old­ham, have been charged with as­sault of a con­sta­ble in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent.

They have been re­leased on bail and will next ap­pear at Man­ches­ter and Sal­ford mag­is­trates court on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 30.

Now the The In­de­pen­dent Of­fice for Po­lice Con­duct is in­ves­ti­gat­ing GMP’s han­dling of the in­ci­dent fol­low­ing a com­plaint al­leg­ing ex­ces­sive use of force and dis­crim­i­na­tion.
