Rochdale Observer - - FAITH NEWS SCHOOL NEWS -

THERE were three different race winners at Hollingworth Lake on Sunday.

With close competition in the Merlin Rockets, who were tuning up for their Felucca Trophy weekend, Steve Crook and Sally Townend were able to hold off the others to win the first race. Gusts blowing across the Lake were stronger than expected and variable in direction. Julian and Evan Parry were runners up, with Les Bithell and Emma Turner in third place.

Commodore Andy Carter joined in the racing for the next race and, with his past experience in Toppers, won. This time Steve Crook was runner up with Tom Daniel and Kevin Parry in a GP14 taking third place.

With the wind easing off for the last race, Tom Daniel and Kevin Parry found their way successfully to win the race, ahead of Julian and Evan Parry with Steve Crook taking third place this time, for some very close overall points on the day.

Over the weekend, three of the Club’s Junior sailors were at Ullswater for the RYA Northern Junior Sailing Championships. In a fleet of 33 Toppers and conditions varying from strong breezes to lighter winds on such a large lake, Daisy Fisher did very well in 10th place, Hector Droungas came 17th and Jacob Din was 24th.
