Student is convicted of Keith’s manslaughter
ASTUDENT has been found guilty of killing a dad with a single punch.
A jury convicted aspiring football manager Jafar Ali of the manslaughter of Keith Maden following a row outside a takeaway in Rochdale town centre.
Ali, who was 19 at the time of the attack, claimed 5ft 4ins Keith had threatened to headbutt him, insisting he had acted in self-defence.
Keith, 59, who had health problems, never regained consciousness after smashing his head on the pavement and died in hospital the next day of ‘catastrophic’ injuries.
Ali told police officers Keith had pushed him, adding: “I’m not lying to you, I gave him the lightest punch I’ve ever given anyone in my life.”
