OW the phrase ‘pocket rocket’ is much overused in the motoring press - but it seems totally appropriate for our test car this week.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport is a hoot. The last time I had this much fun at the wheel of a sporty small car was in an original Mini Cooper S.
Those clever people at Suzuki have managed to squeeze almost 140bhp out of the little car’s turbocharged, 1373cc ‘Boosterjet’ engine, which means a 0 to 60 time of just over 8 seconds and a top speed of 130mph.
But that is not the whole story. Because the Swift Sport is beautifully set up it can be chucked about (when safe to do so) with a great chassis and perfectly matched sports suspension.
And what I also like is that it is a bit of a ‘Q’ car, with little sign that this Swift is much quicker than the standard versions - apart from meaty twin pipes and carbon fibre effect panelling the small Suzuki gives little away at first glance.
As performance hatchbacks go it is also reasonably priced (From 17,999) and fuel
