Seconds register first win against Didsbury

-

ROCHDALE’S 2nd team faced up against Didsbury Northern 6s, a team they had never previously beaten in any encounter.

The game started off with high tempo and was flowing well for Rochdale until Didsbury managed to find a quick counter and put the pressure on the Rochdale defence and secured the first goal of the game.

Rochdale, who usually lose their shape and composure after going down a goal so early on, came back stronger and were pressing high and hard, creating lots of chances and eventually securing an equaliser.

The game and the goals were flowing backwards and forwards for both teams.

By half time Rochdale were 3-2 down, and with the half time team talk still loud and clear, Rochdale could see that the game was still very much in their own hands and entered the second half full of determination to take control of the game back.

Quickly they managed to secure the equalising goal and put themselves on the front foot. Their cause was helped by Didsbury Northern having two players sent off on green cards, giving Rochdale an advantage for two minutes each time. They pushed on and gained the lead for the first time in the game.

With the last 10 minutes to play it was still very open.

With Didsbury pressing all the way into the Rochdale half, the defence stood strong and managed to play it out from the back giving Rochdale a fantastic chance for the counter which they took and put the game away with a final goal.

The final score was 5-3 to Rochdale. It marks a fantastic start to the season and was a very well deserved win.

A club spokesman said: “Coming back from two goals down and going on to win the game 5-3 the team showed good character and we kept our discipline and shape against a well organised and physical Didsbury Northern side.

“The team showed great determination today and were an example of how a well organised team can prevail regardless of the score at half time.”
