Lighting up fes­tive sea­son

THE count­down to Christ­mas be­gins in Rochdale next month, with a fes­tive mar­ket, lights switch-on and fire­works dis­play.

Thou­sands are ex­pected to at­tend the event on Satur­day, Novem­ber 24, which will in­clude a fes­tive, in­door mar­ket and fam­ily ac­tiv­i­ties in­side Rochdale Town Hall. There will also be Christ­mas sto­ry­telling, mu­sic, theatre work­shops and craft ses­sions for chil­dren.

The mar­ket will open at 1pm in the Great Hall, where sea­sonal food and drink will be served in a Christ­mas cafe while War­dle Com­mu­nity Brass Band get visi­tors in a fes­tive mood with yule­tide favourites.

Out­side the town hall from 1pm there will be hot food and fes­tive drinks. ●●This year’s Christ­mas lights will be switched on in Rochdale on Satur­day, Novem­ber 24. The event at­tracted more than 2,300 peo­ple in 2017

Characters Ben the elf and princess Holly will help Fa­ther Christ­mas and a host of other guests to of­fi­cially switch on the lights at 4pm, ahead of a big a fire­works dis­play.

Coun­cil­lor Janet Em­s­ley, cabi­net mem­ber for neigh­bour­hoods, com­mu­nity and cul­ture, said: “This event al­ways gets our fes­tive sea­son off to a great start. With a lo­cal fes­tive mar­ket, food and drink, ac­tiv­i­ties for the chil­dren and our spec­tac­u­lar fire­work dis­play, there will be some­thing for ev­ery­one.”
