Lighting up festive season
THE countdown to Christmas begins in Rochdale next month, with a festive market, lights switch-on and fireworks display.
Thousands are expected to attend the event on Saturday, November 24, which will include a festive, indoor market and family activities inside Rochdale Town Hall. There will also be Christmas storytelling, music, theatre workshops and craft sessions for children.
The market will open at 1pm in the Great Hall, where seasonal food and drink will be served in a Christmas cafe while Wardle Community Brass Band get visitors in a festive mood with yuletide favourites.
Outside the town hall from 1pm there will be hot food and festive drinks. ●●This year’s Christmas lights will be switched on in Rochdale on Saturday, November 24. The event attracted more than 2,300 people in 2017
Characters Ben the elf and princess Holly will help Father Christmas and a host of other guests to officially switch on the lights at 4pm, ahead of a big a fireworks display.
Councillor Janet Emsley, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture, said: “This event always gets our festive season off to a great start. With a local festive market, food and drink, activities for the children and our spectacular firework display, there will be something for everyone.”
