Duke on end of shock
LAST weekend’s RDSFL fixtures were focused on the Christine Robinson Second Round sponsored by Manchester Brick Specialists.
Gamecock won 4-3 against Duke of Wellington, despite being a division lower than their opposite number.
Andrew Gray, Gamecock’s manager said: “Our performances are getting bigger and better every time we play.
“I am so proud of them all, they’ve got me wishing that we could play every single day when I see them in this form.
“I think that Duke of Wellington have to have some credit, the game really could have gone either way and they might feel hard done by.
“They never gave up, either.
“This is the second time that the lads have knocked out opponents from higher divisions and we are starting to show just how good we are.”
Russel Gruffogg scored a brace, whilst Carl Tomlinson and Jake Cliff both got on the scoresheet to ensure that Gamecock ran out winners.
Elsewhere in the competition Coppice United Scraped a 2-1 win against MPG, whilst AFC Swan were well beaten against Prestley in a match that ended 8-1.
Avenue also showed their strength to get through to the next round with a 9-0 win over Heyside, as Wardleworth were felled by Clayton athletic.
The tightest game of the weekend was between Littleborough 2nd XI and Warmersley Conservative Club. The match ended 4-4 at the end of 90 minutes, but it was Littleborough who scraped through on penalties.
In the final game of the First-Round fixtures in The Christine Puckersley were comprehensive in a 7-2 win against Donkey.
They will now face strong outfit Limeside King George in the Second Round.
