School car blaze drama

A CAR burst into flames out­side a pri­mary school in Rochdale as chil­dren left for the day.

Fire crews were called to Kingsway, in the Low­er­place area of the town, just be­fore 3pm on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 22.

Pho­tos from the scene show huge flames erupt­ing from the BMW, just yards from back­pack­wear­ing young­sters who had been leav­ing Low­er­place Pri­mary School when it hap­pened.

A spokesman for Greater Manch­ester Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice said that one crew was sent to the scene, and that the blaze was quickly brought un­der con­trol.

They added: “We were called at 2.54pm to Kingsway in Rochdale to re­ports that a car, a BMW, was on fire on a foot­path.

“We sent one crew from Rochdale to the scene who used a hose reel and breath­ing ap­pa­ra­tus to put out the fire.”
