Santa Dash and Dawdle a success
HUNDREDS of Santas dashed and dawdled around Hollingworth Lake to raise money for a hospice charity.
Springhill Hospice’s Santa Dash or Dawdle 2018 returned last weekend and festive fun was had by all.
More than 400 Santas were joined by a few elves and reindeers as they made their way around Hollingworth Lake on December 9 for the annual Christmas fundraising event.
The event ran very smoothly thanks to the help and hard work of both event founder volunteer organiser, Pearl Benbow and Springhill’s event and campaigns fundraiser, Rebekah Cheshire.
Rebekah said: “What a fabulous turnout we had this year, with the weather favourably being on our side too.
“Thank you to all of our Springhill Santas for your wonderful support and to all our sponsors and the staff at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre for allowing the event to be a fabulous festive fundraiser.”
The 4km festive event launched back in 2005 with 87 Santas taking on the challenge, but the event has seen more and more people getting involved to raise money for the hospice each year.
This year saw more than 400 Santas take part along with a few of their fourlegged friends too.
At the finish line the participants received a medal presented to them by Mayor Coun Mohammed Zaman and a welldeserved break at the Visitors Centre.
Once again this year the Santa Dash campaign has received extra help in promoting the event from the Hospice charity shops.
Each of the charity shops has taken part in the annual Santa Dash window display challenge.
Hospice shops are competing for a prize for their volunteers through an online vote on the Springhill Hospice Facebook page which was due to be announced on Friday, December 14.
If you missed out on this year’s event, the Santa Dash or Dawdle will return next year on December 8.
