Bjerre’s eyeing title on return

-

KENNETH Bjerre has revealed he intended to give British Speedway a miss in 2019, but reconsidered to accept a return to Belle Vue which, he says, was the ‘only Premiership club I wanted to race for’.

The Danish international was ruled out of the Aces’ plans last year because of the ‘one eight-point rider per team’ rule, and had a brief stint with Leicester before stepping away from the sport in the UK.

Bjerre says he’s delighted to have made the cut for the season ahead and comes into the team on a bargain 7.02 average to line up among the new-look septet’s top three riders.

He said: “I was disappointed to have missed out on a team spot last year, but to be fair the whole season was one to forget for me and I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to race in the UK this year.

“But an opportunity to come back to Belle Vue wasn’t something I was going to pass on.

“It’s a fantastic club with one of the best tracks and facilities in the country, and I’m delighted to be back.”

Bjerre has also outlined his ambitions for the new-look Aces this year and is determined to help fire them to Premiership glory, stating: “The only thing I haven’t managed to do yet is win a league title.

“I’ve won Shields and KOCs but never a league title.

“Hopefully, that’s something we can change this year. We’ve a solid-looking team and all the boys are fired up and determined to make it happen.”
