Con­sul­ta­tion on pos­si­ble chil­dren’s play area sites

RES­I­DENTS will be con­sulted on three pos­si­ble sites for a new chil­dren’s play area in Whit­worth.

Rossendale coun­cil have re­quested com­mu­nity in­ter­est com­pany Prof­fitts work the lo­cal com­mu­nity to find a site which will serve the town and at­tract vis­i­tors from out­side the area.

Ideas will be sought on de­signs to cater for ‘as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble’ and could in­clude tra­di­tional play, ad­ven­ture play ar­eas or park­our.

Mar­tin Prof­fitt, from Prof­fitt’s, said: “We are re­ally look­ing for­ward to work­ing through and iden­ti­fy­ing the best play site for the peo­ple of Whit­worth.

“Whit­worth is a lovely place to visit of­fer­ing walks, her­itage and wildlife – it would re­ally add to the at­trac­tion of Whit­worth if we could up­grade the play pro­vi­sion sig­nif­i­cantly for the ben­e­fit of gen­er­a­tions of peo­ple from Whit­worth and at­tract vis­i­tors into the area which would be great for lo­cal busi­nesses”.

Coun­cil­lor Jackie Oakes, port­fo­lio holder for op­er­a­tions, said: “We def­i­nitely need more play fa­cil­i­ties in Whit­worth so I am very happy this project is pro­gress­ing. I hope as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble give their views so we get it in the right area.”
