Super shavers raise £2k

Rochdale Observer - - NOSTALGIA -

A PUB which hosted a charity hair and beard shave has raised around £2,000 for charities.

Landlord Peter Kelly and his punters from the Commercial on Manchester Road in Castleton, grew their beards and hair ahead of the charity shave.

Peter, who runs the pub with his wife Joanne, had been growing his beard - which he had dyed pink - for six weeks before the shave-off.

Mark Cryer, Nigel Sudell Matt Harvey, Andy Knox, Brian Baldwin, and Rick and Jake Meyrick also took part in the event, which included a band and karaoke.

All proceeds will be split between the Springhill Hospice and Macmillan nurses.

Peter added: “I think we have raised £2,000.

“We are still collecting and I should get final figures through by the end of next week.”

“Most people have been affected by cancer and the hospice is our local charity.”
