Could you to sleep rough for a night?
VOLUNTEERS are sought to take part in an annual charity sleepout.
Each year Petrus Community invites the public to spend a night experiencing what it is like to sleep rough, while raising funds for the Mayor’s designated charities.
Armed with only a cardboard box, blankets and a sleeping bag, those who take part will sleep out in the secure grounds of the Crown Oil Arena. There will be access to toilets and refreshments available.
Sonia Denham, deputy head of Petrus, said: “The Rochdale Sleepout is a fantastic event that raises thousands of pounds. Although it is nothing like really sleeping rough, it gives people an insight into what homelessness is really like, and the difficulties people have to face on a daily basis.
“It is also a really fun event. We have over 30 people taking part and although it’s tough, it’s a really enjoyable evening.”
As Petrus is part of the Rochdale Mayor’s charities, the event is also supporting British Heart Foundation, Moorend Development Trust, Parkinson’s UK, Rochdale Community Partnership and Springhill Hospice.
Rochdale Sleepout will take place on Friday, March 29 from 7pm until 7am.
