He lived up to his promise to deliver ‘a dazzling programme of seasonal music’ including his own transcriptions of orchestral favourites by such as Handel, Vivaldi, Humperdinck, and Tchaikovsky.

We also heard softer tones in Yon’s Gesu Bambino, all perfectly suited to the town hall instrument, culminating in Jonathan’s own Christmas Fantasy with its miasmic mixture of tunes.

Jonathan Scott is also the Honorary President of ORTOA (Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside Organists’ Association).

Its series of Rochdale town hall organ recitals continues with Anthony Hunt of Salford Cathedral at noon on January 12.
