Leaders firm up standing at the top

MIDDLETON Town secured a 3-1 away win against AFC Kearsley in the Newbold Tyres Premier Division to cement their position as the league leaders.

Ryan Lyons, Daniel Dearden and Jordan Burton got on the scoresheet for Town this weekend.

Chris Petcu, Middleton Town’s manager said: “It was a tough game due to the wind – we’ve not played on grass for a while as we’ve had a lot of home games and it was good to get a win before our toughest game of the season against Rochdalian­s.

“We’re still in every competitio­n and we’re moving forward – we’ve not lost a game for two and a half months – it seems to be going really well.”

Rochdalian­s also won their previous fixture despite not playing this week.

This weekend see’s Middleton and Rochdalian­s clash in a match which could swing the title race.

Meanwhile, third placed Littleboro­ugh drew 4-4 against Elton and Walshaw.

Littleboro­ugh are just two points behind second place yet have played two more games than them.

In the Manchester Brick Specialist First Division, league leaders Newhey Rovers overturned strong outfit Avenue with a 5-2 win.

Meanwhile Second placed Newhey Lodge Sports Bar lost in difficult match against third placed Limeside King George.

LKG sit just a point behind Newhey Lodge but have four games in hand.

In the lower half of the table, Prestley FC held Oldham GPO to a 1-1 draw.

The result will favour Prestley who currently sit below Oldham GPO in the league table but have three games in hand on their rivals.
