Get hands-on at Touchstones

-

IN addition to exhibitions in the galleries and museum, and the activities to engage young creatives, Touchstones Rochdale also offers a wide range of activities and performances for the whole community.

The adult craft workshops are inspired by Touchstones’ ongoing music project and new exhibition due to open in March.

These friendly craft workshops provide adults with the opportunity to get hands-on, try something new and have some fun.

Contact Touchstones for information on pricing.

Today (Saturday, February 9) from 10.30am to 12.30pm, artist and maker Sarah Albon will be hosting a Suminagashi ‘floating ink,’ workshop for £10 for the session.

Inspired by music, participants will explore and create marbled papers of echoing waves using colourful layers.

Next month, book your place at the instrument making workshop on Saturday, March 9, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

For £10 per workshop, participants will be provided with strings, springs and saw blades and will be able to design and build their own unique wooden acoustic musical instrument from scratch with guidance from artist David Chatton Barker.

On Saturday, April 13, join the Cutlery Wind Chime workshop from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Craft buddies Karen Vine and Trish Cartner will help you fill your garden with the soothing sound of tinkling musical notes by up-cycling old metal cutlery and making it into an attractive embellished wind chime to enjoy on a warm summer breeze.

A free session entitled, Who’s Afraid of Contemporary Art? will be held on Saturday, March 30 and April 27, from 2pm to 3pm, for those who sometimes feel a little mystified by recent developments in art.

Join one of the art gallery team for a chance to take a closer look at some of the key contemporary works in the current exhibitions.

Oh No It Isn’t! will be showing on Friday, April 19, from 7.30pm, for £6 a ticket.

It’s the final performance of Cinderella in a moth-eaten, regional theatre and backstage, tensions threaten to boil over on-stage.

Based on a lifetime of experience on-stage and backstage, Oh No It Isn’t! explores the highs and lows of life in the theatre.

Written by and starring Great British Pantomime Award nominee, Luke Adamson and using real anecdotes and stories, it is an impassioned yet tender love letter to the world of performance.
