THE first ever Castleton Car and Bike Show was driven to success by over 600 people coming through the gates.

The day featured bouncy castles, an F1 simulator and cake stalls, with money raised going to the Steve Gartland foundation as their chosen charity.

The real stars of the show were the cars and bikes with over 250 on display at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Sunday, July 14.

One of the highlights for a lot of people was the cavalcade of American cars as they arrived in a convoy that was driven through Castleton.

There were quite a few clubs in attendance who fetched over ten cars per club as well as individuals who just turned up on the day with their pride and joy.

A black 1958 Edsel Ranger won best in show.

Organiser Mark Foster said: “It was a pristine example of what a classic car should be - it had everything and was an absolute credit to its owner.”

Cars featured were classic MGs, Rolls Royces, Porsches, Minis, Escorts, Cortinas.

From bikes there was everything from Harleys to Yamaha FS1E and even full-on mods with their scooters, each one looked after with care and attention.

The event was very well received locally with much care taken over parking and possible traffic issues. Local resident and Mayor of Rochdale Billy Sheerin was in attendance and commented on the measures taken to alleviate any issues that could have arisen.

He spent a good hour going around the showground and thought it was a well organised event for a good cause.

Three of the organisers Pete Duffy, Kristy Wolfenden and Mark Foster were commended on the success of the event and said they already had plans in place to include much more in next year’s show with a couple of surprises up their sleeves.

Preparations already underway for next year’s event at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Sunday, July 19.
