AFAMILY are trying to make the most of the time they have left with their only son, after he was diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Mason Scott, six, had developed a limp and was losing weight towards the end of last year.

But as Mason is autistic and non-verbal, it took until January before he was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma.

Mum Becky Scott, 29, of Cleminson Street, Rochdale, knew Mason was in pain, but it wasn’t until a body scan was done that she learned the devastating news.

Mason has tumours in his head, skeleton and in

between his stomach cavity and spine.

Now Becky, and Mason’s step-dad Paul O’Keese, 48, are fundraising to give Mason the happiest time they can.

Their little boy loves cars, driving, swimming and anything to do with water.

He went to Kingfisher Special School in Oldham but he’s hardly attended this year because he’s been too ill.

Doctors have made the difficult decision to end chemotherapy after Mason became so ill from it he had to be treated in intensive care.

Becky said: “We’re not quite sure how long we have got with him.

“We’re making a bucket list of lots of things he would enjoy.

“Because of his autism, we can’t take him abroad, and places need to be wheelchair accessible and because he’s non-verbal, we’re not sure how long he’s had it for.

“We are just taking every day as it comes and trying to enjoy the time we’ve got.”

Becky and Paul, who is an electrician, are hoping to rent a campervan so they can take Mason, who is an only child, travelling around the country if he’s well enough as part of their bucketlist.

Becky’s best friend, Aimee Lloyd, is helping to support the family.

She said: “He’s a super special little boy with an amazing mummy, a step dad who is also his best friend and lots of family and friends who love him very much

“We just want to ease the financial need of the family and allow them to make memories - he’s our little superstar.”

A family fun day is being held on August 4 to help raise muchneeded cash for the bucketlist.

Tickets are £5 for adults, free for children.

The day will begin at 2pm at Mayfield Rugby Clib on Keswick Street, and go on until late.
