ABUSINESSMAN has been left “disheartened” after his business was targeted by thieves.

Forces veteran John Keogh, 51, said he was ‘gobsmacked’ when he discovered thieves had broken into Bluebird Care, which he runs with his wife Beryl, 53, and supports vulnerable people in the community.

The company’s base in Mellor Street, Rochdale, was broken into last Friday (October 16), with intruders smashing a door off its hinges.

Although nothing of value was taken, John, who lives in Heywood, said he was left “disheartened” that someone would vandalise a community-focused business which cares for people in their own home.

John, who left the military in 2015, said: “Although the delivery of services has not been affected - our business is run on the abilities of our staff. “It’s disconcerting. “I appreciate people are going through bad times but don’t take it out on someone who is looking after vulnerable people in the community. “I’m gobsmacked. “I have tried to reach out, and said if you’re struggling, get in touch, even anonymously and we will signpost you somewhere.

“I’m aware of mental health issues - I’m ex military and we support people with mental health issues.”

Bluebird Care has just celebrated it’s second anniversary.

John added: “I wanted to do something that was community-focused to give back to the community.

“I have never done anything I’m prouder of my team are amazing and they have just cracked on through the pandemic.

“In July we came first in national awards for staff satisfaction.

“We try to support out staff.

“What happened is frustrating and it does feel like someone has broken into your home.

“It’s disheartening considering what we do.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
