Police race to home after shots are fired

AN has launched shots were fired home.

Police were scrambled to Belfield Mill Lane in Rochdale on Thursday evening after reports of a firearms discharge.

When officers arrived they found damage to the window caused by gunshots.

No one was injured and there is not believed to be a wider threat to the community, a spokesman for GMP said.

Officers remained at the scene until the following morning.

Photos from the road showed police parked outside a home.

In a statement, GMP investigat­ion been after at a said: “An investigat­ion has been launched after shots were fired at a house in Rochdale.

“Shortly after 6.30pm yesterday evening (Thursday 14 January 2021), officers were called to a report of a firearms discharge at a property on Bellfield Mill Lane.

“Officers attended and found damage to the window of the property consistent with that of a shotgun discharge.

“Thankfully no one was injured and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.

“No arrests have been made and officers remain at the scene conducting their enquiries.”

Detective Inspector Mark McDowall, of GMP’s Rochdale District, said: “I understand the concern this may cause in the community, but I wish to reassure you that we are treating this as an isolated incident and a team of detectives is working to piece together the circumstan­ces surroundin­g what happened.

“Residents may see police gathering evidence and conducting enquiries around the local area, and if you have any concerns or questions please feel free to speak to our officers at the scene.

“We know there will be people out there with informatio­n vital to this investigat­ion, so if you think you know something that could assist our enquiries or if you saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of this incident, then please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
