Charity role for councillor’s new clothes

-

A CHARITY has received a donation of clothes from a councillor to help the local community.

Faisal Rana, who represents Spotland and Falinge, gave the items to the Nigeria Community Association, based in Freehold.

Included were boxes of new jackets, shirts and trousers to help the small voluntary group which also runs a food bank.

Councillor Rana said the clothes will help the group to support the ‘hard-pressed families they work with’.

He said: “I have supported this invaluable group in the past. They do a fantastic job in supporting the local community.

“They work incredibly hard in running a food bank and lots of other activities in supporting needy families.

“A lot of people rely on the valuable assistance they provide.

“I wanted to help a little more, so I donated new clothing that they can distribute to the many hard-pressed families they work with.

“The project is run by the amazing Mary Adekugbe, a tireless worker who puts tremendous effort into everything she does. Rochdale is a much better, kinder place because of her.”

Mrs Adekugbe, the founder of the association, said: “We are a small voluntary group which aims to support our local community and also to promote cultural activities.

“A massive thank you to councillor Faisal Rana for making a huge difference by supporting our community.

“The boxes of brand new clothes will be a great help to those who live locally and are less privileged. Cllr Rana is a great supporter of many voluntary organisations in Rochdale, including the Nigerian Community Association. I am super-duper proud to know him.”
