Adult care chief calls for all to help increase safety

ROCHDALE’S annual Safeguardi­ng Adults Week was back online this week with the theme of subject of creating safer cultures.

It is focusing on sharing key safeguardi­ng informatio­n for practition­ers working with vulnerable adults and residents across the borough.

The week is also providing a key opportunit­y for public and practition­ers to engage in a variety of key adult safeguardi­ng themes and to highlight help and support available locally.

Themes include informatio­n on how to stay safe online, safeguardi­ng mental wellbeing, informatio­n to prevent self-neglect, and how to protect people from adult grooming.

Amanda Clarke, the independen­t chair of Rochdale Borough Safeguardi­ng Adults Board, said: “It’s always important to remind people that safeguardi­ng is our collective responsibi­lity and really is everyone’s business.

“The week’s theme of creating safer cultures cuts across a number of important areas and we hope the daily topics can start conversati­ons, raise awareness and make our residents safer.

If anyone has any safeguardi­ng concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch and your concerns will be looked into immediatel­y.”

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “This is an important event for the borough.

“We can all play our part in creating safer cultures and looking out for each other. The week will help raise awareness around a number of important safeguardi­ng themes, building on our range of partnershi­p work to protect and support vulnerable adults in the borough.

“I am sure it will be another successful and interestin­g Safeguardi­ng Adults Week.”
