Positive steps to put the brake on danger drivers

price. At the moment a 20-minute single bus fare from Middleton to Manchester can cost £4.50 compared to £1.55 hopper fare in London.

Around a third of our residents have no access to a car and with cheaper fares and more buses and reliable time tables, this will reduce the use of cars, helping to reduce carbon emissions, improving the environment and meeting targets within the green agenda.

This is a clear example of the Government’s determination to level up, the money has been provided we must get on with the job at speed.

Dangerous and reckless driving continue to be an issue of great concern to us all.

There are many positive signs, that, thanks to the new Chief Constable, this issue is being given the priority it deserves.

We have now established speed watch, and operation navigator will be an ongoing project to tackle this scourge blighting all our lives.

In one week 15 cars were taken off the road by the Police in my ward alone, this all helps to make our streets safer.

My colleague Councillor John Taylor has been working tirelessly across the council and with the Police on this issue, he points out that the Lancashire Constabulary have taken a far more proactive approach in deploying speed cameras, and technology to tackle this very worrying crime.

Let’s hope that we shall see this approach across the whole of Greater Manchester; the signs are positive thanks in part to the consistent pressure we have all given to this issue.

Finally last weekend we all remembered those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in war for the freedom we enjoy today.

I have the great privilege as leader of the Conservatives to lay a wreath at our Cenotaph in Rochdale and in the afternoon as a Ward Councillor in Wardle.

It was wonderful to see such a large turnout at both events, and especially to see so many young families.

We Will Remember Them.
