●●A NEW farm shop boasting its own café and community room could soon open near a popular beauty spot. Bank Top Farm, close to Hollingworth Lake, in Littleborough, has submitted plans for the new attraction in a bid to take its business ‘to the next level’ and boost the local economy (page 9).

Ian Gerrard: It’s always sunny on these artists impressions! Sounds good though! Keith Christopherson: Brill Gail Campbell: Sounds great!

●●ROCHDALE council is to consider selling off protected fields for housing - despite insisting the land was not for sale when a resident enquired about buying it. Bosses approved the ‘principle’ of selling ‘ the six-acre site between New Street and Stubley Mill Road, in Littleborough - to Russell Homes (September 29):

Tricky Riky: Why? The road network can’t handle existing housing… Go and build your tiny dolls houses on all those fields next to the M1. Littleborough roads cant handle the existing housing, if new houses are wanted then maybe some of the existing should be knocked down so the roads don’t get busier. Sy Charlton: The general consensus is, people will continually moan about there not being enough houses being built, until they’re being built on their doorstep, then it’s an issue. If the council listened to everyone moaning, then nothing would ever get done. At the end of the day, it’s council owned land and they can do whatever they see fit. Neil Hartley: Build council houses for council tenants.. that would be a plan..not sell it for private renters. Oggy1: Make the condition of the sale that it is for affordable houses only,

●●A FOOTBALL club say police are investigating after yobs reportedly hurled bricks at the windows of coaches of visiting supporters. Rochdale FC condemned what the club called ‘totally unacceptable and shameful behaviour that will not be tolerated’. (page 7):

Jean Beaumont: Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from a minority as usual. Stewart Pearson: Disgusting the last time something like that happened was at Wolverhampton’s ground many years ago when Rochdale played there we got our windows smashed when we was leaving the ground by yobs very scary. Blackrod: As the club says, they are yobs. Like those with flares they are not fans. Fans would not risk a ban. True fans will also respect other teams enough to let a match play in safety - the ref could have banned Dale fans. True fans will taunt the other fans with banter, laugh, cry, cheer and boo. But no more 1980s style brick throwing at children please.

●●A NEW masterplan

reveals how Middleton town centre could be transformed into a ‘beautiful and exciting place’ that celebrates its own community, culture and heritage (September 30).

Bilko: This plan just papers over the cracks. The retail offer is charity shops, Pound shops and takeaways. The majority of the workforce is either unskilled or unemployed meaning that Atom Valley offers nothing to the residents of this town with its promise of a hi-tech industry. If Metrolink come to Middleton it will kill the town just like it did in Oldham. Kittycrue: Warwick mill should be made in the flats/apartments it help out the younger population who can’t get a home. Ste kelly: Warwick Mill should be a cinema, bowling, restaurant, bars, kids play arena building. It’s perfect for such a place! Ringwayplanespotter: The problem with Middleton is the hideously ugly Tesco and its huge car park that creates a dead zone in the centre. What town has an ugly supermarket at its heart.? That should be purchased and turned into a park. Nothing else will transform the town.

●●THE country’s top midwife, Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-bent,

dropped into Saint Mary’s Hospital with a golden delivery for Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Kathy Murphy scooped the prestigious national Chief Midwifery Officer’s Gold Award for her outstanding work (October 3):

Paul Lavin: Absolutely well earned congratulations. Jane Farrand: Well done, what a fantastic job you do.
