Milton put an end to Shaw’s fine run of form

- GEOFF GARNETT

THE second round of the North West Inter League Cup involving the top teams in the L and C and Lancashire Amateur League was not a great day for the Land C.

Postponements and abandoned games reduced the fixtures and only Irlam Steel Rangers from the Land C secured their last eight slot.

They were playing L and C rivals Abacus Media and had few problems with an efficient 4-1 win.

Out went Old Stretfordians 2-1 at Chaddertonians, Stretford Paddock 5-1 hosting Mill Hill Blackburn and Mellor were trounced 6-1 at Old Boltonians.

The Premier division was limited to one match and a fine game at Milton saw the home team end Shaw Athletic’s recent good run with a thrilling 4-2 win.

Division one leaders Chadderton Park were without a game and High Lane closed the gap to a point with a comfortable 7-1 win over Manchester Polonia but Park still have three games in hand and a 100 per cent record.

The top game of the day was at Bedians who shared two goals with Sale Ams with Ams bagging a penalty in the first half to secure their point in an excellent game well refereed.

Salford Albion were in seventh heaven with a 7-0 win at Newton and the other game ended locked at 2-2 between Stoconians and Boarshaw.

It’s close between three teams at the top of division two and non-playing leaders Kartel Sports were knocked off top spot as Moston Brook reserves won a tight local derby with Hooley Bridge Celtic by 2-0.

Trafford United drew level on points with Kartel as they also posted a 2-0 win over R-fix FC.

Poynton JFC were the big hitters with an exciting8-4 win at Abacus Media reserves and AFC Oldham were clinical in a 4-0 win over Stretford Paddock Development.

A local derby thriller at Salford Vics reserves saw them share eight goals with North Walkden reserves with a great first half ending at 3-3.

Another close local derby at South Manchester saw Didsbury edge a 2-1 victory.

There are also new leaders in division three as top guns Dukinfield Athletic were without a game.

Spurley Hey hit the top after a breathless 4-3 victory at Badger Casuals and AF Stockport are also in the mix after an efficient 5-0 win over Moston Brook thirds.

Heaton Mersey also kept a rare immaculate clean sheet with a 4-0 cruise over Milton reserves and Saddleworth 3D pulled off their biggest win since joining the L and C with a 10-0 derby rout of AFC Oldham reserves.

Staly Lions are also in the promotion mix with a 6-2 win over Whalley Range.

It was tight in the other two games with Santos keeping up their good run of form with a 4-3 win at Woodhouses and Old Strets seconds shared four goals with Bury Ams reserves.

Hillgate continue to rule the roost in division A but they were given a great game by Altrincham Hale before winning 6-4.

But hot on their heels are Milltown with two games in hand as they preserved their proud 100 cent record with an emphatic 7-2 derby win at Milnrow Firgrovia.

Spurley Hey reserves made it a good day for their club as they beat

Staly Lions reserves 6-3.

Oldham Saints had their best result of the season losing by the odd goal in three to Moston Brook fourths a result matched by Parrs Wood Celtic with a win at AFC Stockport Warriors.

Also deadlock at Flixton JFC in a 1-1 draw with Trafford United reserves.

It’s hot at the top of division B where there was a goal fest led by Broadheath Central who trounced Saddleworth 3D 11-1 to stay in second spot behind Signol Athletic who won 7-2 against Salford Vics Development after a blistering first half where they hit five without reply.

The goals continued to flow for Village Manchester thirds by 5-0 over Didsbury reserves, Timperley Villa Youth 4-1 hosting Stoconians reserves and Barrhill Lads were happy with 2-1 win over Poynton Junior Development.
