●●AROUND 300 jobs are to be created in Rochdale after a global food giant revealed plans to invest over £100m in a new bacon factory. Danish Crown is aiming to open a 30,500 sq. m processing facility at the Kingsway Business Park during the second half of 2023 (Nov 22):

David Hilton: Powered by renewable energy. Good look finding sunshine in Rochdale. Michelle Holt: Worked in a bacon factory when I was younger and everyone used to say I would never eat bacon again, would get home from work and have a bacon butty lol Kim Fraser: This smell is going to kill me off, they better pay for my stomach stapling operation when I just want to eat bacon every morning.

●●A ‘DESPERATELY needed’ new secondary school that was approved by the government three years ago may now never be built. Lakeside Academy, in Littleborough, was one of 22 new free schools across the country to be given the green light back in 2019 (Nov 21):

Joss Booth: Too many people in a small town Neil Hartley: Won’t be any land left..all the housing estates being built...more people less schools or infrastructure to cope with all new builds... Kate Victoria: It won’t be. By the time it would be due the birthrate is through the floor ...

Neil Docoid Wiles: That’s right waste more £ on something not needed.

●●A GRADE II listed building in one of Rochdale’s most historic streets could be turned into flats.

Proposals to convert the early 19th century property, on the corner of Drake Street and Moore Street, have been lodged with the council (Nov 24):

Jerjer: At least it’s not being torn down, or turned into a Cheat ‘em Hill type shop.

●●MICHAEL Gove has confirmed his government department is looking at how Awaab’s Law can become legislation ‘as quickly as possible’.

The promise comes after more than 120,000 have now signed our petition calling for a change in the law that would compel housing associations not to allow any other child, or anyone else, to suffer in damp and mouldy social housing. Speaking during a visit to Rochdale on Thursday (November 25), the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities said he wanted to make sure the memory of Awaab Ishak is ‘properly honoured’ (Nov 25):

Julian Smith: The first change he’s made is to take a million out of

Rochdale for the housing it desperately needs, very useful.

Why doesn’t he give the money allocated for Rochdale to some other building project in the town? James Taylor: RBH for years have let many tenants down by not keeping properties updated.

Insulation and cheap roofing causing many damp issues.

The excuses are ‘ no funds available ‘ or the schedule is for next year.. Whilst the Top dogs get huge pay packets and bonuses. Needs to be handed back to council control.
