School charity champ’s big day
FUNDRAISING champion Charlotte Evans has enlisted the help of fellow Year 10 students to hold a charity day at Whitworth Community High School.
As well as completing lessons, several Year 10s will be holding fundraising events throughout the school day, on Wednesday December 7.
Maxwell Smith is organising a spin-a-thon on one of the static bikes in the gym at Whitworth with his friends.
He said: “I have a bike, but I only cycle now and again.
“We will be taking it in turns to cycle from 7am to 5pm and we are asking people to sponsor us.”
Charlotte said: “In school we have students who go to sporting competitions and sometimes these cost money so we want to raise funds for the PE department to make sure everyone can go to the competitions.
“We are also raising money for Depher CIC UK, this is a plumber who goes round fixing boilers all over the North West for free when people cannot afford to pay.
“We want to raise money so he can continue to do this.”
Charlotte organised a Macmillan coffee morning in October and trebled the previous amount school had raised with the event realising more than £1,200.
At the time, she said she wanted to organise more fundraising activities.
She said: “For the children’s raffle I have a family ticket for a Rochdale home match, my family has a box at Rochdale and we are also hoping to get a shirt signed by all the players. There is also a £50 JD voucher and we are going round the classes selling tickets at 50p.
“The adults’ raffle will have large hampers and I have donations of wine and chocolates from Tesco, Iceland and Lidl and there is also a teachers’ gin raffle.”
Teachers will also be asked to don a bear outfit and go in the goals for a penalty shoot out while at break a cake sale will be held and students can guess the number of sweets in the jar.
The fundraising has already got off to a flying start with students paying to be able to watch England World Cup matches at school in the evenings.
