Parton comes home with good ‘school report’

- ROCHDALE HARRIERS

THIS week’s roundup of the Harriers racing activities over the past week, feels more like an end of term school report than a racing report.

Last week Dave Parton reported on the final race of the Run the Moors Grand Prix Championship and this week it’s the final results.

Run The Moors Grand Prix Championship (RTMGP) is a series of 11 races contested by eight local running clubs.

Within it are two competitions, one for the runners over the series of races, where they have to run a minimum of five races to count towards the prizes.

If a runner runs more than five races, then it is their personal best five scores which count.

The second competition is the Harriers Club Competition, in which just the individual results for each Harrier count towards the prizes, so there are two chances of winning a prize.

So here goes, first of all the

Harriers results for the RTMGP itself. Dave Parton was the first placed Harrier in 5th overall position, followed by Decland Harrison (24th), Chris Gee (50th) and John Bramwell (55th).

In the age categories the Harriers results were as follows:

MSEN 2nd Dave Parton, 4th Decland Harrison, MU23 2nd Louis Mccarthy, MV45 10th Chris Gee, MV50 7th Pete Butterworth, 14th John Bramwell, 21st Jeff Mccarthy, MV55 7th Mark Walker, 14th Nick Walsh, MV60 5th John Mayall, 6th Matthew Cox.

Big congratulations to Dave Parton for doing so well in the overall results and his age category. Also to Decland Harrison and Louis Mccarthy for good results in their age category.

For the ladies, Jenny Brown came 2nd overall, followed by Jennie Ransome (8th), Jill Barton (35th), Bryony Sherry (41st), Molly Howell (50th), Juliet Smith (55th), Julie Smith (61st) and Susie Hirst (69th).

In the age categories the ladies achieved the following results:

LSEN 2nd Jenny Brown, 7th Bryony Sherry, 11th Molly Howell, LV45 15th Juliet Smith, LV50 6th Jill Barton, 10th Susie Hirst, LV55 2nd Jennie Ransome, 7th Julie Smith.

So a well earned congratulations to Jenny Brown and Jennie Ransome for their achievements in both the open category and their age categories.

Now onto the Harriers own Championship results, probably the more important of the two because it can come with bragging rights, or not as the case may be.

In the open category (position irrespective of age), Dave Parton was 1st, so a big congratulations to Dave, followed by Decland Harrison and then Pete Butterworth. In the age categories Harriers men’s results were as follows:

MSEN 1st Dave Parton, 2nd Decland Harrison, MU23 1st Louis Mccarthy, MV35 1st Gareth Chambers, MV45 1st Chris Gee, MV50 1st Pete Butterworth, 2nd John Bramwell,

3rd Neil Hirst, MV55 1st Mark Walker, 2nd Nick Walsh, MV60 1st John Mayall, 2nd Matthew Cox.

Again well done to all the age category winners, with plenty to talk about at the Christmas do and prize giving.

It’s the ladies turn now, so well done to Jenny Brown 1st in the open and her age category. Then we have Jennie Ransome in 2nd place, followed by Bryony Sherry.

In the age categories Harriers ladies’ results were as follows:

LSEN

2nd 1st Jenny Brown, Bryony Sherry, 3rd

Molly Howell, LV45 1st Juliet Smith, LV50 1st Jill Barton, 2nd Susie Hirst, LV55 1st Jennie Ransome, 2nd Julie Smith.

Well done to all Harriers for winning their age categories, you have all earned a rest.

This year it’s the Harriers turn to host the RTMGP prize giving event, being held on the 24th November at Norden Bowling Club.

Continuing with the end of term theme, this weekend sees the final race in the Harriers Road Race Championships, the Oldham Half Marathon on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday attention turns to the Cross Country when the first of the Red Rose League Races is held at Leverhulme Park Bolton.

Finally the Harriers World Tour Race series continues apace, when Richard Stirzaker (club secretary) ran the Atlanta 10 miler, finishing in a very creditable 36th out of 3,400 runners in a time of 64 minutes, 5 sec.

Richard described the route as a MC Escheresque painting. It’s still a long way to go to run a 10 mile race (reminds me of an AC/DC song). Though hope he enjoyed himself.
