Chilling threat as the net closes on criminals

-

THE final episode of The Detectives showed the cold and violent nature of the gangsters.

It focused on DS Martin Soutter and his team securing convictions against the gang.

In a twisting investigation, officers must also arrest one of their own who they believe has links to the OCG’S top brass. But its most striking moment comes as the episode draws to a close.

After arresting a slew of gang members, including boss Sajid Hussain, then 42, cops take another 13 people to Rochdale police station for an interview. It was there that Hussain showed his true nature.

After asking if DS Soutter is in the station, Hussain delivered his chilling message.“martin Soutter has taken this personally,” he said to the cop accompanying him, before turning to the film crew. “Put that on camera.

“He is going to get it.” Responding to the threat in a separate interview moments later, DS Soutter said: “Throughout [my] time, threats have been made.

“They’re not nice, and of course, you consider that threat and you manage it.

“But it will not stop you. Why would I not [investigate]?

“I am a police officer and organised crime is a blight on society.”

Episode three reveals that many high profile gang members were jailed after a three-week trial. Hussain pleaded guilty to money laundering charges and was given 32 months in prison by a judge.

Rejaul Miah, aka Reji, was put behind bars for nine years, as was Arslan Ali. Jake Stead was handed given seven years and two months. ‘Skinny’ Awais was given another six years on top of the 18 years he was serving for a horror axe attack in October 2017.
