ST MARY’S, BALDERSTONE

IS your breakfast usually a cup of coffee and slice of toast (if you’re lucky) as

you rush around trying to start your day?

Why not try a different start this morning?

Our women’s breakfast takes place in the parish room between 9am and

10.30am. We’d love for you to join us.

There will also be a short talk on ‘waiting’ by Kathryn Mason.

All women welcome, so if you’re already feeling overwhelmed with planning and preparations why not join us for a breakfast and take a little while just to think about what it is that we are all rushing towards with so much intent.

This will be our last women’s breakfast before Christmas.

Tomorrow our morning service starts at 10.30am.

We’ll be finishing up our sermon series in Galatians, looking at chapter six, verses one to 18 - Doing Good To All.

Children’s groups will be available for ages four to 11.

Whether it’s your first time or you are part of the family, we’d love to welcome you!

In the evening we’ll be gathering for prayer, in the parish room, 6.30pm 7.30pm.

This is a relaxed space, an opportunity to take time out, to rest in God’s presence, and to be strengthened in prayer.

SMURFS (St Mary’s Under Fives) meets on Tuesday afternoon

1.30pm - 3pm in the parish room.

It costs £1 for one adult with child and an extra 30p each for extra children.

This week, in craft corner, we’ll be thinking about the Nativity while making Christmas cards.

We have a selection of small group midweek Bible studies.

Wednesday 10am in the church lounge

Wednesday 7.30pm at the home of a group member.

Thursday evening,

7.20pm - 9pm, Zoom only.

ST ANDREW’S, DEARNLEY

NEWS of two separate Family Services which are coming up soon.

There is the restart of an existing one on Wednesday at 4pm, after our primary school has finished and the start of a brand new one at 11.15am on Sunday, December 3, this one to be held on the first Sunday of each month.

We have had the Wednesday afternoon Family Service previously, but for various reasons it has been a non-starter recently and we are delighted to announce

that it will be back on Wednesday and each subsequent Wednesday until school breaks up for Christmas.

Obviously, ALL are welcome, but this service is specifically aimed at the children of our primary school and parents who may be picking them up from school and wish to come straight to church where refreshments will be available from about

3.45pm.

The Rev Rachel has a grandson of her own and is well aware that children need a different sort of service to keep them interested and attentive as compared to older people.

The same applies to the Family Service at 11.15am on the first Sunday of each month, starting tomorrow week.

More singing, less doctrine is one way to describe that service, which will be specially designed for children and their parents who might understandably find it difficult to get everyone ready in time to get to church on a

Sunday morning for our Sung Eucharist at

9.30am.

We will have refreshments, of course, as is usual after the

9.30am service and families and children arriving early for 11.15am

can have tea or coffee and biscuits beforehand.

Equally, we hope people who have been to the 9.30am Sung

Eucharist will take refreshment and perhaps stay on for the Family Service, if only to compare the difference.

Yesterday (Friday) we had our annual Autumn Fair in church, held this year, as an experiment, on Friday instead of

Saturday, as has always been the norm.

We will let you know next week how we went on.

We were open from

2pm to 6pm, and entry was FREE. You could come and go as you pleased.

There were lots of stalls, refreshments were available and entertainment was provided periodically by our primary school band and by the Littleborough U3A Choir.

Tomorrow, of course, is the last Sunday before Advent.

Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat!

Will you put a penny in the old man’s hat or will you spend a few quid to support your church in these difficult times?

Please continue to bring in items for the food bank, including Christmas selection boxes for children.
