Rys ready for ‘make or break’ fight

- BOXING BY JAMES BOVINGTON

ROCHDALE-BASED boxer Ryszard Lewicki is aware of how important his upcoming rematch with Manchester-based Iranian Bahadur

Karami is at Manchester’s Bowler’s Exhibition Centre on December 16.

“It was a draw when we met in July”, explained Lewicki, “and the rematch is everything to me, it’s my world title fight.

“My whole professional boxing future on the line.

“I’ve prepared as diligently as possible, thought through every possible scenario, and prepared for anything Karami attempts.

“It’s my opportunity to erase the only blemish on my professional record.

“Last time we gave the fans a night of true excitement.

“Judging it a draw was controversial, but the truth is that I did make mistakes.

“This time Karami will face the best version of me as I intend to remain undefeated and hopefully stop him before the bell”.

Polish-born middleweight Lewicki moved to Rochdale almost two years ago. He added: “I plan to stay. It’s a great place for the running that’s essential for fitness.

Especially Hollingsworth Lake”. Having won most of 130 amateur bouts, Lewicki’s first professional fight was in March 2022.

Four decisive wins were followed by the draw with Karami.

Lewicki won his sixth and last fight in September against Liam Wells.

Saturday’s six round rematch is his seventh paid fight arranged by former professional boxer Pat Barrett’s Black Flash Promotions on their tenth anniversary show.

Twenty-seven-yearold Lewicki has been trained by Barrett since the summer.

He also works part time as a carer for adults with learning disabilities.

Lewicki sums up 2023 as ‘a boxing rollercoaster for sure and crucial to my progress teaching me many valuable lessons and enabling me to learn and grow as an individual and a boxer, taking a major setback and responding by becoming mentally and physically tougher. In 2024 we take over.’

Any individuals or companies wishing to support Lewicki through sponsorship as he makes further progress in boxing can contact him via his Facebook page or by e-mail at rysiek12459@ googlemail.com
