No bunny loves us – rabbits left in park
ELEVEN abandoned rabbits have been rescued after being discovered in cardboard boxes in a park.
Among the homeless bunnies are four babies just a few days old.
The ‘cold and wet’ animals were discovered in a park in Rochdale on Saturday morning by two ‘kind’ passers-by who took them to a nearby RSPCA sanctuary.
They are now in ‘relatively good health’.
The discovery was revealed by RSPCA’S Hollingworth Lake Animal Centre on its Facebook page last Saturday afternoon together with pictures of the furry pets in cardboard boxes full of straw.
In the post, the RSPCA said: “This morning, only two days before Christmas, we have had 11 rabbits brought into us who have been found dumped in cardboard boxes at a park in Rochdale.
“Most of these rabbits are juveniles.
“However we also have a mum with four babies that are only a few days old.
“Sadly, all of the rabbits arrived cold and wet through but thankfully seem to be in relatively good health.
“They are extremely lucky bunnies as without two kind members of the public going to check what was in the boxes, they could have been out even longer and many of them may not have made it.
“These rabbits have arrived at a time when we are already full of existing rabbits and so the staff are busy setting up additional accommodations for them all and giving them a meal to tuck into.
“The staff will also be on site 24 hours a day throughout the festive period in order to try and give these lovely bunnies a chance at getting back to a point where they are thriving and happy.
“With all these new arrivals, we will be needing lots of rabbit pellets, newspaper and hay over the next few weeks.
“Therefore if you are able to donate any of these then we would appreciate it so much.
“Our reception area is open every day apart from on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
