AN ODE TO COUNCILLOR’S SURGERY

-

Daniel Meredith’s surgery went well

‘Til some irate bloke gave him hell

And this confrontation Caused much aggravation And he had this strange tale to tell

At surgeries advice is suggested

But drug tests aren’t often requested

And this was no joke When this ‘angry’ bloke Demanded that Daniel get tested!

The councillor didn’t delay

And took a drugs test right away

Then Daniel’s reply To this irate guy: “It’s negative! “Is that OK?”

But this strange chap wasn’t yet through:

“Test all of the cabinet too!

It needs to be seen

That councillors are clean A test for them all should be due!”

Now, really this chap was a clot

He should test the Tories why not?

For them it’s frustrating With such a poor rating It’s their party that’s gone to pot!

●●DWP Cold Weather Payment to be paid to 27 Greater Manchester postcodes. Residents across a number of boroughs in our region will get the £25 payment (January 22)

Terry Walsh: Crazy how long people have to wait for it, they could have already died due to hypothermia and not affording to put the heating on, £25.

Lesley Fineran: Happy days.

Kelly Taylor: Shame that the tax payers don’t actually receive it, absolute joke.

Suzy Kay: Just pensioners get a winter fuel payment, I think it’s £300. It’s just for pensioners, you have to be born before 1957 to get it. My dad had a private pension as well as the state one and he got it. I think it was £300.

Lisa Marie Pixie: This is mostly for elderly people that probably paid tax all their lives.

Kelly Taylor: Some pensioners that worked for their living are not entitled to it either unfortunately, and they should be, but earned over the bracket and get nothing. It’s mainly for people on benefits who don’t pay a bean into the system.

Lisa Marie Pixie:

If someone gets pension credit they are entitled to it - let’s be honest, not many people will have earned £5 over the limit - we’re talking people who had good jobs and their own businesses, properties etc

This is aimed at those pensioners that genuinely have to chose between heating and eating.

If someone has/had a good income that’s great, but why would the government need to give them more when people are out there dying from starvation, the cold and shame? It’s aimed at those that need the help the most - they don’t help everyone they never will but at least this can help save some vulnerable people.

●●Environment Agency investigating after hundreds across Greater Manchester complain of ‘foul smells’. Complaints about the Pilsworth South Quarry landfill site have rocketed in recent months (January 19)

Liam Hughes: Smelled it every morning this week, puts hairs on my chest.
