Casualty is cut from car after horror road smash
FIREFIGHTERS had to cut a casualty from a car following a crash in Middleton on Friday evening.
Police taped off Grimshaw Lane following a smash at the junction of Sandy Lane just before 6pm.
Images from the scene show a red Toyota Corolla at a traffic island on the junction, with a ‘keep left’ sign damaged on the ground.
Doors from the Toyota appear on the ground alongside strewn shrapnel, after firefighters had released a person from the car.
A dark-coloured Vauxhall car, which was involved in the crash, was also seen with a damaged bonnet following the collision at the side of Grimshaw Lane.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that minor injuries were reported following the crash. The person released from the Corolla by firefighters was later treated by paramedics.
No arrests have been made following the crash. The road was closed for a number of hours, with recovery work taking place at around 8pm.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At shortly after 5.50pm this evening (Friday, February 2), two fire engines from Chadderton and Heywood fire stations, and the Technical
Response Unit from Ashton-under-lyne, were called to attend a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Grimshaw Lane, Middleton.
“Crews arrived quickly and used specialist equipment to extricate one casualty who was then transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service.
“Firefighters worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately an hour at the scene.”
