New screen and film club and chance to have say on the town centre
CREATE Rochdale is a network of organisations and individuals who represent the education, youth and arts and culture sectors in the borough of Rochdale.
The aim is to ensure that all children and young people living in Rochdale have access to high quality cultural education.
They have launched a New Skills Share Programme for Youth Workers and Artists. Inspired by research and reports such as Tate’s Circuit programme (2013 - 2017) and Spotlight’s Creative Youth
Work Report, they’ve brought together five local youth workers and five local creative practitioners to take part in a new year-long skills share programme.
They’ll meet once a month to share experience and explore how youth workers and creative practitioners can work together for the benefit of young people in Rochdale.
The programme is funded by the Cultural Development Fund (a Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) fund administered by Arts Council England) and supported by Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency.
There is also a New Screen and Film Club for 13 to 16-year-olds.
Hopwood Hall College have partnered with Saturday Arts Club and British Film Institute to run a new club on Saturday mornings.
Each Saturday, members will be guided by professional film makers to develop technical and creative skills for the industry, including filming, editing, sound, innovation and creative visualisation.
The club is free to join and started on Saturday, March 2. Any young person who is interested in joining should apply now at website: https:// saturday-club.org/club/ rochdale-hopwood-hall -college-film-screen/.
Young people as well are invited to Shape the Development of Rochdale’s Town Centre
Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) is working with the High Street Task Force Agency (HSTFA) to redefine Rochdale’s town centre and they are hosting an interactive, Place Making workshop at Rochdale Town Hall on March 27.
The event is an opportunity for local people to have their say on what big changes are needed to make our high street fit for the future.
They think it’s important that young people’s voices and experiences are included in these conversations.
If you work with young people who’d like to attend the event or share their opinions, please contact helen.thackray@ yourtrustrochdale.co.uk.
●●Earth Day 2024
As part of the Wild Outside programme, they’re encouraging schools to
celebrate Earth Day in April. The creative learning team at Touchstones have put together a resource showing how waste materials can be reused to make animal
sculptures. On Saturday, April 20, there will be a family friendly Earth Day event at Rochdale Library with free performances, creative activities and information.
