Youngsters pedal to boost charity

-

AGROUP of children from Rochdale have pedalled their way to a fundraising total of £1,681 in a sponsored bike ride for Rochdale DS All Stars, a charity dedicated to providing friendship and support for children with Down’s syndrome and their families.

Each of the children rode a kilometre at Bowlee Community Park in a challenge that was supported by Your Trust; while two toddlers who belong to the group undertook an obstacle course that saw them practice their crawling and throwing skills.

Lalain Meskyzadeh of Rochdale DS All Stars, who organised the event, commented: “With World Down’s Syndrome Day on the horizon, we were looking for a fun challenge that would encourage our members to try a new skill while raising money to support the parent and family sessions that we run throughout the year. We were incredibly proud of all the children who took part, especially as some of them had never pedalled a bike before.”

She continues: “We have been blown away not only by the generosity of our friends and family, who have got behind us by donating so kindly, but also by Georgina and the team at Bowlee Community Park, who went the extra mile while hosting us, even providing mascots to entertain the children. We are also completely indebted to Catherine, Myron and Gemma at Your Trust, who gave up their time to bring the bikes down and support the children through their cycling challenge. We could not have raised this fabulous amount without them.

“We are extremely grateful to the Abu Faisal Trust, a charity organisation, that gave our fundraising a massive boost by donating £500 to the cause.”
